Mortal Kombat has gone GOLD!

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm announced that the upcoming Mortal Kombat (MK9) has officially gone gold on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game is scheduled to launch on 21st April 2011 and from the previous demo release and trailers, Mortal Kombat is shaping up to be the most brutal instalment of the legendary fighting game to date. Currently it is available for pre-order at all major retailers across the UK.

The press release also gave details on what you can expect from the new game below!

Being developed by NetherRealm Studios, led by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, the newest chapter of the iconic fight franchise marks a triumphant return to the series’ mature presentation and a reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic. Driven by an all new graphics engine, the fan favourite Fatality is back and presented in more gory detail than ever before. In addition, Mortal Kombat introduces a number of new game-play features including tag team, a deep story mode, and, exclusively for the PS3, Stereoscopic 3D. Players can choose from an extensive line-up of the game’s iconic warriors and challenge their friends in traditional 1 vs. 1 matches, or take on several new game modes including Challenge Tower and the soon-to-be-announced online modes.

So are you guys excited for a move back to old school? Or could you care less?
