Preview: Awesomenauts

At the Eurogamer Expo, I had the chance to play Awesomenauts, the latest game from Ronimo Games! These are the talented guys that created the hugely successful Swords and Soldiers but they are back with a title that proves to be a little crazier.

To be honest I wasn’t particularly hyped about seeing it, since the initial videos and screens of the game I looked at were not exactly making me jump out of my seat, however I tried to keep an open mind about it and looked forward to running it through it's paces.

I was given a quick walkthrough of the game’s mechanics/ universe by Ronimo Game’s, Fabian and you can see the video about us discussing Awesomenauts below!

Awesomenauts is a side scrolling, multiplayer online battle arena in which you battle in teams of 3 and the goal is to destroy the opponent’s base. You can also buy upgrades for your character from the shop by collecting Solar. The base of the story is that it’s the year 3587 and war is currently happening throughout space. Huge robot armies are locked in an enduring stalemate and in their bid for galactic conquest they call upon the most powerful group of mercenaries in the universe: the Awesomenauts!
Its all out war alright!
It's really easy to jump into a game too. As soon as you're online, it will search for a game with players currently playing. If it can't find one, it stars a game with bots and gradually adds in players as they come online.

For a 2D side scrolling game, it’s surprisingly fun! The gameplay is fast paced and you’re practically being kept on your toes most of the time. The game is meant for the more hardcore player but it’s layout and controls pretty much makes it easy to just pick up and play by anyone, whether you have experience playing a platformer before or not.
I'm in my shield, you can't do nothing!
Of course some moments during gameplay, it is completely all out war but no worries because you still have your standard health packs which you can pick up or in my case, you just run away like a chicken and leave your team behind.

For what was available at the expo, I was only able to play as Froggy G and Lonestar but apparently there are going to be six Awesomenauts in total to choose from! According to Fabian they will either appear as Downloadable Content or a free update when the game is released.

You really think you can best me?
Awesomenauts is a downloadable title for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade and you can look forward to playing it sometime towards the end of 2011! For more information and updates on the game, you can check out www.awesomenauts.com
