E3 2012: Ubisoft Press Conference
Ubisoft decide to open the conference with a crazy display of dancing skill which obviously points to the Just Dance series. After the awesome performance by Flo-Rida, Just Dance 4 was announced.
Far Cry 3 takes the stage to tell us why their game will make us think differently about the way we play games. Straight off we are shown a new live demo where we are hunting Vaas. We were given a look at combat possibilities and stealth options when dealing with enemies. Once the demo is over, we’re given a look at the different islands that could be discovered along with a short trailer revealing story elements.
Next up is Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which was shown earlier during the Microsoft press conference. The crowd was treated to the release trailer for the game featuring a lot of high action Splinter Cell play.
Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth makes an appearance at show with a brand new trailer. The trailer shows a variety of Marvel characters going head to head, Wolverine battles Venom and Spiderman takes on Magneto. The trailer ends with the official Avengers team facing a ship in the distance.
Some of the Wii U titles began to pop up, such as the previously leaked Rayman Legends game. To kick things off, a live demo was shown giving us a look into the characters, environment and artwork. Murphy was announced as a new character for the game and is specifically controlled using the Wii U Gamepad to help Rayman get past certain obstacles. Players control Rayman and various other characters using the Wii U Pro Controller.
One new exclusive Wii U game was announced called Zombi U, a survival horror title which drops you right into the middle of a zombie apocalypse. From the trailer shown, we can see that the game is set in London however that’s all the info we’re given.
Later on, a trailer was shown displaying all the games Ubisoft plans to release for the Wii U, including Rabbids Land, Just Dance 4, Assassin’s Creed III, Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013, Sports Connection, Zombi U, Rayman Legends and Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth.
What everyone seemed to be waiting for, Assassin’s Creed III was ready to hit the stage. A CGI trailer was shown where a war is currently ongoing and you can see the new Assassin, Desmond charging for the enemy on the other side of the field. After the trailer was shown, members from the development team came on stage to give a little more insight on the game’s story, background and to present a live demo. We are shown New England during Winter 1776 where Desmond is currently trying to track down a Templar. The presentation was ended with gameplay highlights and fan questions.
The latest in Esports is Shootmania, a game tailored specifically for the Esports scene. I guess to make it more interesting; they held a tournament on stage between Tobuscus Railgun Allstars and Rocket Angels. Both teams went head to head in the game’s Elite Mode. The presentation ended with the Tobuscus Railgun Allstars coming out on top.
Next we got a look into Ubisoft’s Online Network including Free To Play, MMO’s and console based games. We also get a look at a new IP called Watch Dogs, a 3rd person open world game about the digital age and hacking.
Overall Ubisoft seemed to do extremely well this year, they had amazing games on show, new Ip’s in Zombi U and Watch Dogs and favourites like Assassin’s Creed III seem to be looking better than ever. I seriously do believe this year, Ubisoft brought it’s A game and in my opinion, totally blasted the competition.
