What We Know So Far About Killer Is Dead
For those of you unfamiliar with this title, Killer is Dead is Grasshopper Manufacture and Suda 51's new baby.
It's set in a not so dissimilar future to our own timeline, and features Mondo Zappa - An executioner who wields a Katana in his right hand, and a cybernetic arm on his left, which functions as an interchangeable weapon.
Mondo's role as an executioner is to hunt down and execute a number of despicable criminals, scattered throughout his world.
It's early speculation yet, but Killer is Dead looks to be your typical Suda 51 title, with over-stylised visuals, quirky characters, outrageous cinematics and slick animations. Also coming as no surprise, is the presence and objectification of big breasted women, with costume design and imagery leaving little to the imagination. Like I said, Killer is Dead is a title that's undoubtedly typical of Suda, but do we stop loving him for it? Of course not.
It's easy to see that Killer is Dead takes a lot of inspiration from No More Heroes and Shinji Mikami's Shadows of the Damned, with an art style and theme somewhat reminiscent of one of Suda 51's earlier and more iconic titles; Killer 7.
With Lollipop Chainsaw being a huge letdown for me, I feel it's about time Suda stepped up his game, to create something ingenious, exciting and memorable once more, and hopefully Killer is Dead will be the title to achieve this and once again fill that space in my 8bit heart.
